Best VPNs for torrenting & P2P
For P2P the priority order flips: privacy first, speed second. This ranking weighs audited no-logs policies, kill-switch quality and P2P server policies. Non-negotiables for torrenting: an independently audited no-logs policy, a firewall-grade kill switch (your real IP is exposed the second the tunnel drops mid-swarm), and explicit P2P permission. Port forwarding - offered by Proton VPN and Windscribe - meaningfully improves seeding. VPNUS lists tools, not permissions: downloading copyrighted material stays illegal with or without a VPN.

Frequently asked questions
โธWhich VPNs allow torrenting?
Every provider on this page permits P2P on all or designated servers. Free-tier P2P is rarer: Windscribe and PrivadoVPN allow it on free plans; Proton VPN's free servers do not.
โธIs torrenting with a VPN legal?
The VPN is legal; what you download is what matters. Torrenting open-licensed content is fine anywhere. Downloading copyrighted material is illegal with or without a VPN.
โธWhat is port forwarding and do I need it?
It lets peers initiate connections to you, improving seed ratios and speeds on poorly-seeded torrents. Proton VPN and Windscribe offer it; most competitors dropped it for security simplicity.
